Brass holds warmth the way no other metal does — not just in color, but in feeling. Under the torch, it doesn't just change; it remembers.

And then I set pearls into it.

There's a tension in that pairing that I didn't plan — I just followed the direction. The pearl is everything the torch-patinated brass is not: refined, luminous, quietly aristocratic. The brass is raw, rebellious, marked by fire. Together they shouldn't work. They absolutely do. It's a brutalist chic that isn't for everyone — but to the artist's eye, it's exactly right.

The disc started as a flat sheet — then I put flame to it and watched it become something else entirely. Torch-patinated brass develops color the way a sunset does: unpredictable, unrepeatable, entirely itself. This one settled into deep rose, amber, and warm burgundy — a surface that looks ancient and alive at the same time.

Over that, I hand-fabricated a sterling silver architecture: a crossbar, angled spires, a horseshoe void that draws the eye inward. Freshwater pearls are scattered across the surface like pinpoints of light — some clustered, some solitary, each one a small act of contradiction. At center, a gray reticulated moonstone sits in a beaded sterling bezel, its surface fractured and luminous, anchoring everything.

I drilled the holes deliberately. The negative space is part of the composition. This is wearable sculpture — brutalist in structure, ceremonial in feeling. The sterling collar shown is sold separately.
